North Shore Painter – Some Tips For Interior Painting

Painting Tips From A North Shore Painter

Painting an interior wall can be a lot of hard work. In fact, many people underestimate the knowledge and technique that ultimately go into painting. But you probably already know what you are going up against. And you are not making the mistake to underestimate the big job ahead of you.

Hence these tips for interior painting I have learned over the years as a North Shore painter. They aim to help you do a great job, even if you do not have much experience. So, without wasting any more time, this is what you need to do.

Think About The Surface You Paint

First things first, you have to pay attention to what you will be painting. Interior painting can involve many surface types or different materials. And when this is the case, you have to be more focused on the type of paint you use. The wrong choice can eventually lead to peeling and cracks within a short time, which is not what you want. And when you are not sure about the best paint to use, do some research online or ask the experts down at the hardware store.

Prep The Surface

One of the first things I learned when I started as a North Shore painter was the importance of preparation. Whatever you do, do not just paint over whatever is on the wall or surface. More specifically, get the surface area clean. If there is an old layer of paint, consider removing it in order to prevent problems down the line. If you want the paint to stay in place, you have to properly prep the surface that’s going to receive the paint. Then you ensure the paint job is worth all the effort, and it will serve you for years to come.

Test The Colour First

With so many different colours to choose from, it can be tough making a final decision. Plus, it’s not like you can just repaint everything if you don’t like the colour. These projects take time and money. So you want to be accurate with your colours the first time around. Which is why experts recommend testing small patches that can easily be covered again.

Consider The Type Of Paint You Want To Use

Just like you get different colours, you are going to have several options in terms of the actual paint. For instance, you can go with a water-based PVA or use a gloss enamel oil-based paint. Naturally, the choice you make will determine the length of time you are able to enjoy the paint because one does not last as long as the other. Also, there should be a big difference in the cost of the paint.

Cover Valuable Items That Cannot Be Moved

Before you start the painting project, cover everything you cannot or do not want to move out of the room. You might think you have everything under control, but nothing spills and splatters like paint. And before you know it, everything from the carpet to the windows is covered with tiny blots of paint. So make sure to keep your furniture projected before you even pick up the brush or roller.

Get Ready For A Second Coat

Depending on what you want to achieve, it is recommended to add a second coat of paint. Why? Because a second coat is going to bring out more of the true colour you are searching for. However, you need the first layer to dry properly first.

As a final tip, try to get all the necessary tools for painting. It makes the job a lot easier when you have the right brushes and tools readily available. Not to mention the safety gear for your eyes and mouth. Because paint does not taste nice while it burns your eyes.

No Time To Do It Yourself?

While some people like the idea of doing decorating themselves, many others do not want to. It might be a lack of time, a family to look after, or no experience in painting your house.  Whatever the reason, many people choose to hire North Shore painters to do their interior painting jobs. This might be one room or the whole of the inside of your home.
